Why Bakwena Charity

Bakwena Walk for Charity is a voluntary event organised by members of the Bakwena ba Mogopa nation, located in Bethanie, near Brits.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and to support in non-monetary contributions to alleviate the the hardships experienced by orphanages based in the community. The key focus areas include food, shelter, healthcare and education at orphanages.

The Bakwena Walk for Charity is Regional event held during the festive season, here participants will walk around Bethanie village for an estimated distance of 22 km. The first event was held on the 24th December 2011, and it is currently the only event of its nature. This year’s event will be

Two years later, we are preparing for the 3rd Walk 4 Charity event on the 21st December 2013, and we have achieved the following:

  • Sponsored Groceries for Orphanages in Bethanie and Modikwe in 2011 and 2012
  • Established a Facebook group/page with over 100 members (and growing)
